One of the best things about the holiday season is hearing the musicians I best enjoy turn toward the holiday standards. New versions of “White Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” you name it.

Yesterday, I was delighted to find that a recording of Patrick Thomas’ “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” had popped onto the songster’s myspace — with a shoutout to Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” which always makes any good song that much better.

But much as I love that version, even it has failed to top the single best Christmas song made by anyone whose music I dig. The champion and the focus of this week’s Manic Monday remains, for the third Christmas in a row, Mr. Peter.J.Thurston, who took a decidedly naughty, glorious take on Christmas with an original: Polaroids of Santa. Which, conveniently enough, is available for your audio worship at his DotCom. Click on the link above and then select PoS from the dropdown audio  menu. Enjoy. You’ll love it.
