The Bruins have acquired right wing Patrick Eaves and a fourth-round pick in the 2010 draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Aaron Ward. After acquiring Eaves, the club has placed Eaves on waivers for the purpose of buying him out.
I am not happy about this news*, I don’t agree with this decision and I’m now expecting the Bruins to step up big time in the coming season to justify this move.
I can be objective about most trades, but this one hurts. He’s the player I started to follow back in 1993, when he was in the minors and I didn’t have a clue about hockey. He’s my kind of player – tough, scrappy, defenseman. And, my favorite thing? During warmups, he was always, without fail, the last guy to leave the ice. You’ve got to appreciate that.
I’m also going to wear the bejeezus out of my Ward shirt this season.
*Understatement of the year. I should be at least a little embarrassed by how disappointed this makes me. But I’m not.
